Karate Begins and Ends with Respect

Here are a few photos of our Karate Kids practicing “Kumite” (freestyle sparring). This is an opportunity for students to test their skills (mind, body and spirit). At SCK, it’s not uncommon to see students wearing “bogu” (protective equipment) when practicing Kumite.

Although, all students work hard and push each other to greater levels, it’s important to acknowledge the presence of “reigi saho” (Etiquette, Manner or Conduct). All students are encouraged to “intentionally” develop what respect means to them and how they choose to demonstrate respect in the dojo and in all areas of their lives.
