Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 October 2026

Sunshine Coast Karate (“we”, “us”) runs this website and the dojo at 2/14 Depot St, Maroochydore. This policy explains what personal information we collect through the website, why, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

The short version

  • We only collect what you give us in a form, and use it to arrange your trial or answer your message.
  • We don’t sell or share your details with advertisers.
  • There are no advertising or analytics cookies on this site, and no Google Analytics.
  • We count visits ourselves, without cookies and without recording your IP address.

Booking a free trial

When you book a free trial we collect:

  • your name, email and mobile number;
  • who’s training: the first names (and, if you add them, last names) and ages of any children, and the names of any other adults you book for, with their mobile or email if you give them;
  • the classes you choose, and anything you tell us in the optional questions (such as injuries or nerves), when you’d like to start and how you heard about us;
  • the page you arrived on and the website or campaign that sent you (see “Counting visits” below).

We use this to contact you, book your class and look after you on the day. If you add another adult’s mobile or email, we’ll send them a confirmation too, so please only add them with their okay.

If you start the form but don’t finish it, we save your contact details as you go, and may contact you once to help you finish your booking.

Other forms

When you send us a message or feedback through the website, we collect what you enter and use it to reply. Form messages are stored securely on the website and emailed to us.

Dojo news

If you sign up for dojo news, or ask for our free parent guide, we keep your name (if you give it) and email address to send you the guide and the occasional dojo update: grading dates, events and offers. Every email has a link to unsubscribe, and you can ask us to remove you at any time.

Where your details go

  • Our website. Every booking and message is stored in the website’s own database, then emailed to us, so nothing is lost if an email goes astray.
  • Our member system. Trial bookings are passed to our member system, so we can book you in. Dojo news is sent from it too.
  • No one else. We don’t sell, rent or share your details for marketing. We’d only disclose them if the law requires it.

Spam checking happens on our own website: your form isn’t sent to an outside spam service.

Counting visits

We count visits to this website ourselves, without cookies and without third parties. When you open a page, your browser tells our server which page it was, which website or campaign brought you here, and whether you’re on a phone, tablet or computer. We don’t record your IP address or your browser details, and nothing links one visit to the next. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is counted.

Sometimes we test two versions of a page to see which helps people more. Your browser remembers which version you were shown (a single letter in its local storage, not a cookie), so you see the same one next time.

Cookies and browser storage

Visitors get no cookies from this site. Your browser’s own storage keeps a few small things, on your device only:

  • where your visit started, until you close the tab, so a booking can say which page you came from;
  • whether you’ve closed a booking box, so it doesn’t keep popping up;
  • which version of a page you saw, if we’re testing two.

Nothing in it identifies you. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it all.

WordPress sets login cookies only for Martin, Sandra and anyone else who logs in to manage the site.

Maps and outside content

The dojo map on our pages is an image stored on our own website (map data © OpenStreetMap contributors), so viewing it doesn’t contact Google or anyone else. If you click it, Google Maps opens in a new page, and Google’s privacy policy applies there.

Some older blog posts include videos or posts from other websites (such as YouTube or Facebook). These behave as if you’d visited that website, which may set its own cookies.

Blog comments

We no longer take comments on the blog. Comments left on older posts stay published with the name the commenter gave. If you’d like yours removed, contact us.

How long we keep it

WhatKept for
Unfinished trial bookings90 days
Trial bookings24 months, or 30 days after they’re passed to our member system, whichever comes first
Other form messages12 months
Dojo news and parent guide sign-upsUntil you unsubscribe
Individual page visits (no personal details)30 days; after that we keep only daily totals

After that, the personal details are deleted. Emails we’ve received sit in our inbox until we delete them.

Children

A parent or carer books for children, and we only ask for what we need to place them in the right class: a first name and an age. We don’t ask children to fill in forms themselves.

Security

The website uses HTTPS, form data is stored in its database rather than only in email, and access is limited to the people who run the dojo. Personal details are never put in web addresses.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what we hold about you, or send you a copy;
  • correct it;
  • delete it, unless we have to keep it for legal or administrative reasons.

Call us on 0435 255 323 or use the contact form. We’ll reply within 30 days.

If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your information, tell us first and we’ll try to put it right. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a big change to how we use your details, we’ll say so on the website.
