If you’ve been thinking about our early morning class but aren’t quite sure what to expect, here’s a peek at a typical hour in the dojo, from the moment you walk in to 7am.
5:50am: arrive and settle in
The roads are quiet, the air is still cool, and the dojo lights are on. Come in comfortable clothes like a t-shirt and track pants, bring a water bottle, and say hello. We’ll show you where to put your things and introduce you to the early crew.
6:00am: bow in

Every class starts the same way: lined up together, a moment of stillness, and a bow. It’s a simple way to leave the rest of the day at the door.
Warm up and wake up

Gentle movement to get the body going: loosening the joints, stretching and building a little warmth. Everyone works at their own pace.
Learning the basics

Then into the karate itself: stances, blocks, punches and kicks. As a beginner, you’ll have someone beside you to help, and nobody expects you to get it right the first time. Every black belt in the dojo started exactly where you are.
Putting it together

Depending on the day, we might work with a partner, practise kata (a set sequence of moves) or try some practical self-defence. It’s focused, friendly and always controlled.
7:00am: bow out and off you go

A short cool-down, a final bow, and you’re done. Most of our early risers head straight to work, uni or school feeling awake, calm and ready for the day.
Come and try it
Our early morning class runs Tuesday and Thursday, 6–7am, for teens and adults. Beginners are very welcome.
Your first lesson is free. Join on the day of your trial and we’ll waive the joining fee and give you a free uniform. This offer runs until Saturday 19 December.
If you’d like to give it a try, you can book your free class here, or call or text 0435 255 323. We’d love to see you in the dojo.
